TRCS Kindergarten 2006
This Kindergarten class of 14 children consists of 6 girls and 8 boys who have quickly settled into our routine. In Kindergarten learning is fun and we all enjoy our activity based learning experiences and love co-operating in both work and play. Because we are part of a K to 10 school, frequent interaction between the different grades occurs when mixed groupings allows Kindergarten to work and play co-operatively with a variety of children from different grades. This happens in the playground as well as at other times e.g. at School Assemblies, in our Sports Houses of Barton and Deakin for Carnivals, on Behaviour Levels Reward Days and special activities such as Clean Up Australia Day. We also have Buddy Reading with Year 3 three times a week.
Buddy Reading with Year 3

Our Day:
Morning Assembly bell rings at 9 a.m. Organisational matters such as announcements, reminders, messages, team reports, etc., are made.
Morning PEP:
( Mon, Tues, Weds, & Thurs at 9 ) Helps children to become more active and as fit as possible. The groups are rotated through a variety of activities over a period of 2 weeks and the changeover activity is a power walk. It is vital for children to participate regularly and to be at school by 9 am as teachers also rotate to different groups If children are unable to participate in PEP or Sport, a note stating the reason is the most effective way of passing the message to whichever teacher is taking your child’s PEP group on the day. We have a No hat, No play! policy so a school hat is important every day!
9:25 till Recess (11 a.m.) English / Literacy Block:
Includes Class Assembly, Talking, Reading and Writing activities. During Reading groups children use the classroom computers as a group activity which supports their reader. Classroom Helpers: We have both Reading and Maths groups with Parent Helpers: Petra Miller and Fiona Weily help on Tuesdays Liz Friend, Sally Tinnock and Janelle Taylor help on Wednesdays Donna Birch and Cynthia de Jong help on Thursdays Mrs Wendy Cox is the Vision A.P. and comes on Wednesday morning and Mrs Gill Jarrick is the Vision Aide and comes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings to assist our Visually Impaired student.

At 1 o’clock we can sign out equipment from the Sport Shed and play on the oval. Some lunchtimes the Library is open from 1 o’clock.
DEAR time with Year 3 Buddy

1:30 to 3p.m:
We have Drop Everything And Read time. Children are taking home readers every day except Wednesday when they borrow from the Library. Children learn to read by reading. The readers are designed to give us frequent exposure to high frequency words and to build our confidence in our ability to read. Year 3 are our Buddy Readers and read with us on Tues, Thurs & Fri during D.E.A.R. time. After DEAR time afternoon activities include Craft, Art, Music, Co-operative Group Activities, Personal Development Activities and School Assemblies until the 3p.m. bell.
FRIDAYS: Infant Assembly and Scripture:
Each Friday morning all Infant children have an Assembly , followed by Scripture with children moving to their Scripture rooms. Sport Day is Friday before recess during the hotter Terms and after recess during the colder Terms. Sport uniforms and joggers should be worn on Fridays. During Term 3 we are learning Hip Hop Dancing with Callie.
Our homework books come home on Fridays as we have been introduced to the “Nasty Vowels” ( which are always trying to trick us ) and are now working our way through the alphabet. Homework books should be returned on Thursdays for redistribution on Fridays.
During Term 2 Daniel Hockey, a 3rd Year student from C.S.U. was working with our class. Daniel wants to visit us again later in the year and we are all looking forward to showing him how hard we have been working.
