Year 9 & 10 Mathematics
Mathematics is a subject in which pupils work at different rates and have differing levels of ability. Pupils work in ability groups, working towards either of levels 5.1, 5.2 or 5.3 (by the end of Year 10) as appropriate to their level of ability. Each of these courses has common elements. The content and process reflect a relational learning ideal. Problem solving, investigations and practical work (including the use of computers) are undertaken as an integral part of each course.
To facilitate both teaching and learning, the common elements of the courses are covered by the whole class (or a combination of groups) together. At other times, topics or themes may be undertaken by the three groups separately. Suitable remediation or extension work is given to enable all students to perform to the best of their ability. Homework is set as per the School’s homework policy.
