Google tips and tricks

Google can be used for more than just Web searches.

  • It can be used to find the definition of words or phrases. In the search field just type the word define followed by a space and the word/s you want defined. If I wanted a definition of the World Wide Web it would look like this - define world wide web. Click here to see the result.

  • What about a calculator? Enter a mathematical argument in the search field and Google will display the result. Use these symbols - “+” add, “-” subtract, “/” divide. Here’s an example - 100/11. Click here to see the result.

  • Conversions can be calculated by Google as well. What is 5 inchins in centimeters? In the search field type 5inches in cm, click here to see the result.

  • Ask a question get an answer. Google Q&A can answer many questions. For example- what is the population of Japan? Type “population of Japan” in the search field and find out. Have a look… click here.

  • Are you feelin lucky? You know you want to go to Metallica’s website… but is it metallica.com, metallica.net, metallica-online.com? Type a keyword in the search field and click “I’m Feeling Lucky” and most of the time you will be… lucky that is, and be taken directly to the highest ranked page that matches you search query.
