The Internet Vs The Web

Let’s define the two.

The Internet

  • The Internet today is a large-scale network of millions of computers that allows continuous communication across the globe. It’s the physical entity of computers and servers. Your computer connects to the Internet through a modem. The various applications of the Internet include -The World-Wide Web (the web or WWW), Electronic Mail (E-Mail) and File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

The World Wide Web

  • The Web (www) is the reason the Internet has become so popular. The Web is the most widely used service of the Internet. Users access Web pages using web browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. Web pages use Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML). Many thousands of pages are added to the Web every day. Web pages can be a mix of text, graphics and multimedia.

An easy way to remember it is … you connect to the Internet to view the Web.
